About this Consultation

Maribyrnong City Council has been working in the area of food security, or equitable access to healthy affordable food across the municipality, since the early 2000s. This work has included the development of a Food Security Policy in 2002, revised in 2011, the Maribyrnong Fruit and Veg for All project from 2005-2010, and the current project, Cultivating and Growing Healthier Communities.

Increasing food production in Maribyrnong is one aspect of food security, and a strategy raised by the community.
Council is now exploring ways to respond to this issue.
We are particularly interested in:
• Community perspectives on how this could be done.
• Ways in which the community & Council could work together to increase the quantity of food produced in the municipality.
The landscape settings we have been looking at are naturestrips, parks and public spaces, and community gardens.
